Self-Defence
Self-defence refers to a set of techniques, strategies, and actions employed to protect ourself from physical harm or danger.
It involves using reasonable force or measures to defend against an immediate threat or attack.
Self-defence can include physical techniques such as strikes, blocks, and grappling, as well as verbal de-escalation and assertiveness skills to diffuse potentially violent situations.
The primary goal of self-defence is to protect ourself or others while minimising the risk of injury. It is important to note that self-defence should be proportionate to the threat and used as a last resort when other options, such as verbal de-escalation, escape or seeking help, are not viable.
ATSD specialises in teaching self-defence techniques and principles that are relevant to the world we live in today. Students are taught how to increase the odds in their favour if facing an unprovoked violent assault. The process of teaching self-defence is all about risk reduction, as a positive outcome for the victim of an assault cannot be guaranteed.
